Peeling, Cold Weather Lips: How To Address Them!

By Wright Smiles

When you find that you’re dealing with some serious lip and oral dryness that won’t go away no matter what you, of course, we always invite you to come in to see our Southlake, TX team for a visit! However, did you know that dry lips are a very frequent complaint that pops up as soon as the weather starts to turn cooler? When you find that the further you get into the cooler seasons, the worse your lip tissue gets, don’t put up with frustrating, uncomfortable peeling. Instead, put some very simple suggestions into practice and you’ll probably see improvement!

Gently Exfoliate

Dry lips will yield flaking, peeling tissue in many cases. This can become frustrating in so many ways! Since you cannot re-hydrate your lips in an instant, you may be looking for ways to handle this. When you smooth the tissue out, you are no longer at risk of biting or peeling the skin and making things worse (or trying to put lipstick over dry tissue, which doesn’t look so wonderful). What you need? It’s time to exfoliate. You may find exfoliating cosmetic products made for this particular problem. You may mix table sugar and water together and gentle massage it over your lips. You may use a clean, dry toothbrush to gentle exfoliate. Or, you can even use a warm, damp cloth. Remember: Be gentle for optimal results.

Keep Moisturizing

Now, you’ve removed the dead skin cells that make your dry lips look and feel quite dry. What you need to begin doing is physically giving them additional moisture. It may sound like quite a task but it is so easy. Any type of lip balm will do. Apply after you exfoliate and do so throughout the day any time you notice lips don’t feel moist and supple. Our team is happy to report that his will help significantly.

Hydrate, Hydrate, And Hydrate Again!

With dry lips, it’s not just what’s on the outside but what’s on the inside that’s affecting your tissue. Remember that your daily hydration is key for keeping all of your body’s tissues full of the moisture they need. Drink enough water, it’s that simple (and it will even help prevent additional smile problems).
