Your Lips, Tongue, And Gums Need Care Too!

Your Lips, Tongue, And Gums Need Care Too!

By Wright Smiles

It’s easy to forget about your lips, your tongue, and your gums as you focus on protecting your smile. In many cases, you can shift the entirety of your focus to your teeth, which means you may accidentally forget that other oral tissues need care, too. Not to worry. Provided you are dedicated to your dental hygiene and your appointments with our practice, remembering to protect every aspect of your oral health again won’t require too much additional effort on your part. Let’s review!

Use That Balm!

Find an everyday lip balm for yourself to keep on hand if you should need it. While your lips may be perfectly supple and moisturized today, that doesn’t mean you may not suddenly need a burst of hydration to keep your oral health well. For instance, on a particularly cold day when you turn the heat up, a warm day when you turn on the A/C, when you have a cold, etc., you may end up with chapped lips. Apply your balm and you’ll be good to go.

Brush That Tongue!

We have said it before and we will repeat it: You really do need to brush your tongue (or use a tongue scraper if you prefer it) if you want to practice comprehensive oral health protection. It’s a breeding ground for bacteria, the buildup of which can lead to yucky breath. Clean it when you brush your teeth for easy upkeep.

Protect Your Gums!

This is a big one. Your gums support your teeth, so you really need to keep them healthy. Fortunately, care is no big deal: Brush along your gums when you brush your teeth. Floss on a daily basis (no skipping!). This is all you need to do!
