The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

By Wright Smiles

The good thing about most cosmetic dental issues is that they don’t usually require extensive restorative work. Even if your tooth is chipped or lightly cracked, it can likely be improved with a relatively quick and noninvasive cosmetic treatment. Often, porcelain veneers are the most effective and visually appealing solution, offering a complete makeover for your smile in just one procedure. Among the many benefits of porcelain veneers is the fact that they can address more than one concern at a time, which can save you from having to undergo multiple cosmetic dental procedures.

They Can Multi-Task

A cosmetic dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that’s custom-made to match the size, shape, and color of a specific tooth. Each veneer is bonded to the front surface of a prepped tooth to conceal tooth stains, chips, cracks, odd spaces, misshapen teeth, slight tooth misalignment, and much more. You can receive one or more porcelain veneers, depending on your exact needs, and each will be placed individually for an ultra-realistic look.

No One Need Know You Have Them

To plan for your veneers, we’ll use advanced diagnostic equipment, like 3D imaging, to capture the exact measurements of your teeth. The specifications are sent to a trusted dental lab, where a highly-skilled technician handcrafts the veneers using lifelike porcelain. The finished product will be an appropriate number of veneers that are indistinguishable from your natural, healthy teeth, eliminating the blemishes that caused your displeasure.

You Can Retain Most of Your Tooth Structure

The average porcelain veneer is less than 0.5 mm thick. To prepare a tooth for a veneer, the same thickness (< 0.5 mm) will be sculpted from your tooth’s enamel (which is typically between 1.5-2.5 mm). Even if a small amount of the dentin must be modified, the large majority of your healthy tooth structure will remain intact to support the veneer.
