Q&A: Hygiene In Strange Locations!

By Wright Smiles

For the most part, dental hygiene is pretty straightforward. You stand in your bathroom, you brush and floss in front of your sink, and then go you along on your merry way. However, sometimes, brushing and flossing may take an interesting turn when you find yourself in other locations. So, you may wonder to yourself, what to think about dental care in less common locations? In short: As long as you’re cleaning your smile well, all is likely just fine! As for details, rely on our Q&A session for now.

Questions and Answers

Question: Is it okay if I brush my teeth in the shower in the morning? My friends laugh at tell me this is very weird.

Answer: It’s perfectly okay if this is what you prefer. That is, assuming you’re doing everything correctly: Spend two minutes brushing with a soft-bristle brush and toothpaste (fluoridated). Of course, also be careful about setting your brush down in wet areas. Always remove your brush from the shower to let it dry out in the open air.

Question: What can I do when I’m stuck in the car but I really need to freshen up my smile? Dental hygiene with brushing and flossing isn’t really an option.

Answer: Sip and swish with some water. Then, chew sugarless gum to clean teeth of plaque and any bits of food. Salivating (which gum helps you with) helps clean your smile, too.

Question: Do you have any good suggestions for smile care at work? How can I practice my dental hygiene?

Answer: If you have easy bathroom access, bring your toothbrush and toothpaste (and floss, too) along and brush after meals and snacks! Otherwise, the water and sugarless gum trick will help until you get home.
