How to Design a Smile Makeover

By its very nature, your smile is dynamic, and any dental procedures you undergo depend on the state of your dental health at the time you seek treatment. For many patients, dental health isn’t as much of a concern as dental aesthetics, or how bright, straight, and attractive their smiles are. To correct cosmetic issues, Dr. Victoria Heron and AACD-accredited Dr. Gregory Wright can customize a smile makeover procedure designed to suit each patient’s specific needs. Depending on your situation, you might benefit from a simple teeth-whitening treatment, or you might require a combination of other cosmetic enhancements.

What Does Your Smile Need?

Teeth Whitening

Teeth stains are also the most common cosmetic complaint, and teeth whitening is the most common, and often the most convenient, cosmetic dental treatment. Depending on your preferences, Dr. Wright and Dr. Heron may recommend in-office whitening, which can be accomplished during a single visit, or take-home teeth whitening that you can apply from the comfort of your home. In-office treatment can brighten your smile up to 10 shades in just over an hour, while a take-home kit can provide the same results within 10-14 days.

Bonding & Contouring

Dental bonding and contouring are processes by which we can change the size and shape of one or more teeth to fix the symmetry of your smile. Dental bonding describes the application of white composite resin to the chipped edge of a tooth. The resin is bonded to the tooth’s surfaces, carefully sculpted to the ideal shape of the tooth, then polished to blend in with the tooth’s color and shine. By contrast, contouring describes slightly altering a tooth by sculpting away excessive or uneven tooth structure.

Porcelain Veneers

While teeth whitening is the most common treatment, porcelain veneers are quickly gaining popularity as a conservative and highly effective means of addressing a wide variety of issues. Veneers are thin shells of dental porcelain that are hand-crafted to the measurements of your teeth, then carefully bonded to each tooth’s front surface. Made from lifelike ceramic that closely mimics your tooth’s appearance and light-reflecting abilities, veneers can dramatically transform most smiles in with a single procedure.
