Remember: Adjusting To Dental Work Takes A (Quick) Moment

You may have a lot of questions about what you can expect from dental care when you’ve completed a treatment and you’ve headed home. Actually, you may be a little worried about this! You know that your smile needs certain things in order to be its best, your oral health sometimes requires repairs, and you sometimes simply want to select a procedure to improve the way your smile looks. However, what will things be like once all is said and done, you ask our Southlake, TX team? The short answer is: Everything is going to be wonderful! Now…for a longer version.

After Cosmetic Care

When you head home from your cosmetic care treatment with us, we remind you that there won’t be much of an adjustment period! You may absolutely feel a quick shock when you see yourself in the mirror because you will love the new transformation that you’ve received with cosmetic dental care. However, whether you saw us for teeth whitening, bonding, or contouring, your teeth will feel the same. If you saw us for porcelain veneers, your teeth may feel just a tiny bit different. However, veneers are exceptionally thin! So, there’s really not much of an adjustment process (unless you count getting used to loving your smile as the adjustment).

After Your Newly Restored Smile

So, you’ve been to our practice to see us for restorative care. This might mean you came in for a dental filling due to a cavity, a dental crown for your damaged tooth, or maybe a root canal treatment due to infection. We remind you that as a result of the dental care you received, your tooth or the areas surrounding it may feel a little uncomfortable for a couple days, as your nerves calm down. Over-the-counter pain relievers will fix this issue. As for adjusting, you may at first be able to tell the difference with your restoration, particularly if there’s now “tissue” where there wasn’t any before. However, your brain will quickly accept this and those strange sensations will quickly dissipate and then disappear.

After Tooth Replacement

Did you have missing teeth replaced? Initially, this may feel very strange. Your replacements may feel foreign and your chewing and speaking might not feel as second nature as you expected. However, as we said, this is only something that may happen (if at all), initially. As mentioned in regard to restorative dental care, your brain adapts exceptionally fast, so within just days, you’ll be back to normal.
