Patient Case Feature: Porcelain Crowns!

By Wright Smiles

What’s a patient to do when there’s already dentistry in place? If you have ever found yourself in want of teeth that looked whiter, as you deal with crowns or other dental work that has become damaged, you may worry that the undertaking will be far too grand. Good news: This is absolutely something we can help you with, which is just what we did in the case of today’s patient! Take a stroll through the experience with us, as we guide a patient with some slightly damaged work (and a discolored smile) toward improvements with the help of porcelain crowns (and more). Ready to care for your own smile? Just call our Southlake, TX team!

Replacing Older Crowns

The patient we guided toward a more beautiful smile was originally fitted with porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, also known as PFM crowns. While these offer additional strength and support with porcelain over a metal base, we very easily made the change to all porcelain crowns for these front teeth. Remember that for teeth that are not “load bearing,” porcelain is more than strong enough! It’s those back teeth that may require something like PFM or zirconia. You will see that the slightly chipped edges and worn appearance is gone completely and the crowns provide the look of natural, lovely teeth.

Transitioning An Entire Smile

Remember, our patient wanted a brighter smile all around. As you likely already know, this means that our team worked toward this goal by removing the old dental work and then first by whitening the natural teeth in our patient’s smile. Keep in mind that this is often the easiest pathway, as we can then match the new porcelain crowns to the shade of all other teeth. However, remember that if you are happy with your current crowns but would like to brighten up your entire grin, GLO Whitening may be able to allow you to achieve such a goal!
