Holiday Time: 3 Factors To Remember For Safe Teeth!

Holiday Time: 3 Factors To Remember For Safe Teeth!

By Wright Smiles

The holidays are fun! They’re full of treats that you don’t really see the rest of the year. You might even give yourself some extra leeway to indulge to your heart’s (and stomach’s) content, without worrying too much about your usual approach to eating and nutrition. Unfortunately, when the usual rules fly out the window, you can unintentionally set yourself up for some oral health fails if you’re not very careful. Since our Southlake, TX team happens to have some extra-advanced knowledge in this department, we’re on the scene to help ensure your holiday is just as delicious as can be (and all while you keep your teeth just as safe as possible!).

#1: Rinse After Sugar And Carbs!

When it’s holiday time and you’re sitting down to holiday meals, you may find yourself consuming more pastries, cookies, pies, pastas, mashed potatoes, sugary drinks, and more than usual! What’s that mean? Well, it means that you may end up with a smile coated in sugars and carbs, which bacteria love (and that leads to an acid environment in your mouth). Since nobody wants their holiday festivities to lead to a need for dental fillings, we offer you this very simple oral health reminder: Rinse after you eat, especially when you know what you’re eating leads to smile concerns!

#2: Keep Flossing, Please!

We know that you might not feel too worried about flossing during holiday time because a whole lot of other things fill your mind! You may realize you need to try to keep up with dental hygiene but you may also associate some amount of holiday magic with the ability to ease up with your usual preventive care. Think again! It’s incredibly important that you keep up with flossing, especially as things like an increased intake in meats (like turkey), sweets, and more are finding their way between teeth and just beneath your gumline!

#3: Don’t Fall Asleep Without Brushing!

You get home from your holiday party with what feels like just enough energy to drop your keys on the table and then plop into bed. We understand! That sugar-and-carb overload that’s not so lovely for your oral health can also make you quite sleepy. However: Again, we remind you that skipping your basic smile care will surely result in a not-so-desired holiday present in the not too distant future (cavities, gingivitis, etc.) if you don’t follow through with dental hygiene. You can do it. We believe in you!
