Are You Ready For Porcelain?

By Wright Smiles

You will be pleased to learn that we offer a variety of porcelain restorations, such as porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns, and even inlays and onlays. This means that we provide our patients with both cosmetic and restorative treatments that we can fully customize for smiles that continue to look beautiful – or even better than they did before treatment. While porcelain certainly offers many benefits, it is important to determine whether you are ready for this material before you move forward with treatment by asking yourself a few questions.

Question #1: Do I Need To Address Bad Voluntary Habits?

Perhaps you have a strong tendency to chomp on hard snacks or ice throughout the day. As much as these might damage your own natural tooth tissue, they can also harm veneers or porcelain crowns, which you certainly don’t want to have to replace immediately. Simply plan to address these issues before you receive veneers, crowns, or otherwise.

Question #2: Have I Treated Negative Involuntary Habits?

Maybe you suffer from the involuntary habit we know as bruxism, which includes grinding and clenching, which can lead to damage. We suggest that you prepare to receive bruxism treatment and address this habit before you move forward with porcelain restorations. Otherwise, you may find that you experience damage to your dental work quite quickly.

Question #3: Am I Committed To Preventive Care?

The great news is that porcelain restorations hold up quite well against daily wear and tear – in this way, they are quite similar to your natural teeth. And, just like your natural smile, they require commitment to preventive care to keep them (and your oral health) in good shape. Keep up with brushing and flossing, as well as preventive checkups and exams, to protect your restorations.
