After Bonding: Caring For Your Smile

By Wright Smiles

Were you initially excited to learn about the many advantages of dental bonding? What happened? Did you suddenly begin wondering about how to care for your smile after the bonding is complete? Are you worried that it may not last very long (or that maintaining the improvements will require exceptional dedication to daily dental care)? Fortunately, your worries are unwarranted! Keeping up your treated tooth or teeth is quite simple. Consider some basic details, so you can quickly move forward with your initial plans to beautify your grin.

About Brushing And Flossing

After you receive dental bonding, your dental hygiene will remain the same (as long as you have been doing a good job, of course). You will need to follow our recommendations for a healthy smile, which include the following:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste to protect your enamel as well as your bonded area.
  • Floss once a day.
  • Visit us once every six months for a checkup and cleaning.

Avoiding Bad Habits

You should do your best to avoid anything that may scrape or place extra stress on your tooth treated with dental bonding. While we have already ruled out medium- or hard-bristle toothbrushes (which may cause damage), you should also avoid habits like the following:

  • Eating super-hard snacks like ice
  • Fingernail biting
  • Chewing on hard items as a habit (such as pens or other objects)

Making Your Treatment Last

Your dental bonding should last anywhere from three years to approximately 10 years. By treating your smile with care, brushing and flossing correctly, and seeing us for preventive visits, you can get the most out of your cosmetic treatment.
