4th Of July: Important Tips For Your Smile!

By Wright Smiles

Here comes the 4th of July! It’s a special day celebrating our nation’s independence, so it’s all about a big display! There’s time spent outdoors barbequing and enjoying picnics! There are fireworks! There are patriotic pies and cakes! It’s quite the party, which means it’s sure to be a lot of fun. With that said, it’s also sure to be taxing on your smile health (but only if you’re not careful). Why not put some tips into practice, so you can have your delicious red-white-and-blue cake and thoroughly enjoy it? Our Southlake, TX team is here with solutions!

Tip: Stay Nice And Hydrated!

Remember that when you’re spending more time outdoors than you usually do, whether you’re swimming, just relaxing, or running around setting off fireworks, it’s much easier than you realize to become dehydrated! A very important tip for everyone that applies not only to your overall health but also to your smile health is to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water! (Hint: When you’re low on fluids, dry mouth can lead to a saliva deficiency, which can encourage smile problems like decay!).

Tip: Remember To Brush And Floss!

While getting swept away by the fun of celebrating the 4th is wonderful, remember to come back down to earth after the party, when you head home. Even though you know it’s a celebratory day, your smile health isn’t going to give you the evening off. Remember to brush and floss, as always, so you can avoid cavities and more.

Tip: Wear Your SPF, Hat, Etc.

Planning on spending at least part of your day celebrating when the sun is still out? Even if you’re hiding in the shade, remember to protect your skin and delicate lip tissue from potential UV exposure. Pile on the SPF facial sunscreen, all-over sunscreen, lip balm, hat, and sunglasses!

Tip: Rinse As You Snack

There may be some exciting beverages, sodas, lemonade, and other things present when you’re celebrating the 4th! With that said, we encourage you to rinse with water as you snack (and sip sugary or acidic drinks) to protect your smile health!

Tip: Remember To Take Pictures!

What better way to celebrate your smile and the hard work that you put into it than to capture some photos of this exciting holiday, as you grin big for the camera? Whether it’s a selfie or a group photo with friends and family, remember to get yourself in the frame every now and then, while you’re having fun!
