Share the Joy: “Christmas is for Children” Drive

By Wright Smiles

This time of year seems to hold a special excitement for just about everybody. That includes youngsters who leave milk for Santa and crunchy carrots for his reindeer, to parents, grandparents and maybe even great-grandparents who have years of holiday experience to their credit. If your family is in a good place this year, you can make things special for a child in need in Southlake, TX., through Christmas is for Children. Not only will it help someone else, it’s quite likely to bring a smile to your face as well!

What is “Christmas Is for Children”?

This program, also called CIFC, is a registered non-profit, with almost 30 years of helping provide gifts for children who might otherwise go without. It’s not all about toys– the gifts fulfill not only a specific “want” of the child, but include a gift that fulfills a need, and something with educational value. By using a child’s “wish list” and making gifts personal to each child and family,  the hope is to make gifts meaningful, creating a true Christmas experience. The Southlake Fire Department and the Southlake Police Department are key players in making this program a success. And your donation is vital, as well.

When Does CIFC Take Place?

Donations are being accepted right now, through December 24th. Some donation centers have specific times, while other locations provide a drop off area, that you can visit almost any time. Here are three collection dates and times:

  • Fire Station 1 – 600 State Street – Police or Fire Lobby – Any Hours
  • Fire Station 3 – 100 East Dove Road – Lobby – Hours – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • DPS West – 2100 West Southlake Boulevard – Hours – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

What Types of Things Are Needed?

You can bring an unwrapped toy or clothing for any age child, from infant to teen. Non-perishable food items are also accepted. Other ideas are gift cards for grocery stores and stores like Target and Walmart. Donations by check can be mailed to CIFC at PO Box 92833, Southlake, TX 76092. Your monetary gift will be used to buy items for the families participating in CIFC.
