You may feel like if you need any type of reminder for your dental hygiene, you must really be hitting rock bottom with your home dental care! After all, brushing and flossing is something that even kids learn how to do! However, our Southlake, TX team reminds you that from time to time, everyone could use a reminder here and there in terms of things like brushing your teeth. You may be doing a mostly wonderful job with protecting your smile with a toothbrush and toothpaste but even the slightest bit of helpful advice can make mostly wonderful become completely wonderful! Reminder: Don’t Rush Through It
We would like you to take a moment to reflect on how long it should take you to brush your teeth in the morning … and how long it should take you to brush in the evening. During each brushing session, you should spend two minutes from start to finish. Your total brushing time for the day is four minutes. That’s not very much time! Remember, though, that if you were to scale that back to just one minute per session, you’d be missing out on valuable time that will most certainly cause you to miss plaque, which will lead you straight toward the development of oral health problems. So, don’t rush when you brush. If you do, it can also cause you to irritate your smile.
Reminder: Don’t Press Very Hard
Don’t press very hard when you brush (or when you floss either). When you do, you’re essentially upsetting your gums and you are also slowly physically eroding your enamel. Over time, this causes the recession of your gum tissue, the partial exposure of your roots, and the removal of your protective dental layer. Stick with the term “gentle” when you practice dental hygiene.
Reminder: Always Do It Twice Daily
If you don’t want cavities, then you’re going to have to remember to follow the very basic guidelines associated with optimal brushing habits. Fortunately, this requires very little of you in terms of dental care as a whole. When we’re talking about the brushing part of your dental hygiene, it’s easy: Brush two times a day, as mentioned. In the morning. In the evening. When you do this, you keep your smile consistently free of the buildup of plaque (and food particles), which promotes a clean smile (which equals a healthy smile).
