See Your Dentist More Than Twice A Year (Maybe)

“See your dentist twice a year….” that’s a phrase you’ll hear quite often. Those twice yearly exams and cleanings help make sure you have healthy teeth in Southlake, TX. At these checkups, we will clean tartar from teeth and check for signs of developing cavities. We may ask if snoring is a problem (a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea) and about morning headaches. While twice yearly visits keep many patients on track with oral hygiene, there are compelling reasons to see your dentist more often.

Do Your Gums Need Extra Care?

If you have been noticing red or puffy gums, or increasing gum tenderness, you may be developing gingivitis. Other symptoms are bleeding when you floss, and persistent bad breath. All of these indicators point to the early stage of gum diseased, called gingivitis. In very mild cases, we may be able to guide you in improving your home care. It may be that a more intense office cleaning (a dental deep cleaning) can arrest the gum disease. Dental deep cleanings are generally scheduled in addition to preventive checkups and cleanings.

Are You Interested in Smile Improvement?

We are glad to discuss the look of your smile at any office visit. To allow us the time to fully discuss some cosmetic procedures, we may schedule a specific cosmetic consultation. You can spend some time looking at our smile gallery in advance, and we can answer your questions fully, and use our office technology to take X-rays, photos and measurements as needed, if we will be ordering custom-made enhancements (such as porcelain veneers.)

Has Something Worrisome Come Up?

Regularly scheduled appointments help you (and our dental team) plan ahead for efficiency and convenience. However, if something comes up between appointments, don’t let it cause you continuing discomfort, or restless nights of worry. Scheduling a visit between regularly scheduled appointments could mean catching a small problem while it is still small. Whether it is a tooth that feels funny or a new lump on your tongue that hasn’t gone away, the peace of mind from visiting your dentist is probably worth it.

Dental Visits Should Happen as Often as You Need Them
