Questions and Answers

Question: Is it common to get a chipped tooth? Is there something I can do to better protect my teeth?

Answer: It’s fairly common to accidentally chip your tooth. Fortunately, you can better protect your smile by remaining cautious when you bite into something (if it’s too hard, don’t bite into it), by wearing a mouthguard during athletics, by using fluoridated toothpaste, by treating bruxism if it is a problem for you, and by keeping up with visits with our practice.

Question: How do I know if my chipped tooth is something that I need to do something about or if it’s just a cosmetic problem?

Answer: If it’s a very small chip, you will probably not need to do anything about the issue (that is, of course, unless you want to repair it with cosmetic care like dental bonding). The best way to find out for sure is to see us.

Question: So, I can fix the chip if I’m not happy with it?

Answer: Yes, dental bonding will repair the chip when we place composite to replace the missing tissue (don’t worry, it will match your tooth). Or, if you’re planning on receiving veneers for additional concerns, you will enjoy the fact that it will camouflage the chip.
