Candidacy for Teeth Whitening

Seeking teeth whitening for a brighter smile is always your best first move. Some patients may find that whitening offers them an incredible solution for lifting what may include years’ worth of discoloration. However, other patients may find that whitening is not strong enough or comprehensive enough for them to attain the uniform, gleaming smiles they desire. The good news is that we provide patients with a variety of cosmetic treatments. To find out more about for which treatment you make the best candidate, consider the following information:

Teeth Whitening Candidates

You make a wonderful candidate for teeth whitening either in our office or in the comfort of your own home if you are dealing with discoloration that is not extremely deep or stubborn. For instance, if your teeth are yellowed or darkened as the result of eating extremely pigmented foods (think coffee or tea), smoking cigarettes, or the wear and tear that occurs from aging, then traditional teeth whitening methods will likely work wonders for your smile. This solution is also only appropriate for individuals wishing to whiten their natural teeth – we cannot whiten prosthetics.

Alternative Solutions

Is your discoloration or staining extremely severe or deep within your teeth? This can happen due to the use of certain medications or trauma to your teeth. If so, you may not make a great candidate for teeth whitening with the use of bleaching gel. Instead, we may suggest alternative solutions to brighten your grin. For isolated tooth stains, you may make a wonderful candidate for tooth bonding. We will use composite (which we may color-match to your surrounding tooth) to paint a thin layer of material over the stained area. Or, to make over a smile dealing with serious discoloration, we may suggest porcelain veneers for exceptional camouflaging. Veneers are thin ceramic casings that can completely rejuvenate your smile.
