What is Laser Dentistry?

The field of dentistry can have a bit of a scary reputation, because many patients believe that the procedures are painful and uncomfortable. However, advanced technology has allowed us to minimize your discomfort by helping procedures to be faster and less invasive. Laser technology plays a part in this, as treatments involving lasers can be faster, more comfortable, and don’t require the use of a scalpel. Laser dentistry treatments can help you remain comfortable during some of your dental procedures to enhance your experience.

What Can Laser Dentistry Do?

Lasers can be used during many common dental procedures, including:

  • Gum contouring—This is one of our cosmetic procedures, where we will alter the appearance of your gums in order to help your smile look more visually appealing. We can use a laser to perform this treatment, which can alternatively contour your gums or help healthy gum tissue to regrow over areas where your gum line may be receding.
  • Gum disease treatments—While lasers can stimulate gum tissue growth, they can also eliminate infection.
  • Treating infections in your teeth—A root canal treatment may have complications sometimes. When it does, we can use laser technology to help us treat an infection that may occur in the area.

Benefits of Laser Technology

Lasers are generally gentler methods of treatment than some others. In some cases, you may not even need anesthesia for the procedure, and they may eliminate the need for stitches. In addition, they may help your blood to clot faster, so there should be less bleeding.
