Protecting Your Child’s Smile

By Wright Smiles

When it comes to keeping your child’s smile in excellent condition, attempting to make the best choices so your child feels good about dental care can start to feel a bit tricky. Fortunately, we offer children’s dentistry at our practice, which means we provide care specially tailored to the needs of your son or daughter. While your child needs preventive care just like you, it’s important that your little one receives the compassionate approach and age-appropriate treatments necessary for a healthy smile and a positive outlook on trips to the dentist. Ready to find out more about what you can do to protect your child’s smile with us? Consider the following:

Schedule Consistent Preventive Visits

The best thing you can do for your child regarding in-office children’s dentistry is to schedule consistent visits. We generally prefer to see your child once every six months, so we can provide a gentle, thorough dental cleaning. This also allows us to keep a close watch on your child’s smile. We will monitor development to ensure it is successful – we will also detect changes (such as signs of tooth decay) immediately for easy, successful treatment.

Practice Excellent Home Care

As soon as your child’s first tooth makes an appearance, it is important to begin practicing home dental hygiene. During the first few years, you will be assisting greatly with cleaning the first tooth and then brushing and flossing. Once your child is capable of brushing on his or her own, this will be a major step that can be fun. If you’re interested in tips or instructions regarding best home care practices, we are more than happy to offer examples, suggestions, and demonstrations. Keeping teeth and gums clean between visits is a key factor in protecting your child’s smile.
